Mark Dawson is the District Community Affairs Manager for the Southeast and East Districts for KCP&L. His service territory consists of over 120 communities and he is involved in economic development, government affairs, and community relations for the communities he works with. Mark has attended both the Economic Development Institute (EDI) as well as the Institute for Organizational Management at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Mark is a 1978 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri with a B.S. in Business Administration. Mark attained his Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) certification from the International Economic Development Council in 2004. Mark attended the Missouri Chamber Leadership Program and graduated in 2004. He is the 2007 recipient of the Governor’s Lifetime Achievement Award in Economic Development for over 25 years of work in economic development profession in Missouri.
During his career, he has held management or staff positions for rural organizations, countywide organizations and in fast-growth suburban areas. Mark has worked in the communities of Pemiscot County (MO), Jackson County (MO), and Lee’s Summit.
Mark serves on the Missouri Department of Economic Development Certified Sites Advisory Board. He is also on the Advisory Board for the Sedalia EDC and Blue Springs Economic Development Council Board, Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council Advisory Board and Cass County Corporation for Economic Development. He is the serving as the 2014 President of the Board of Friends of Powell Gardens.
